2021: What comes next for global industry?

25 February 2021

Though markets continue to see volatility brought about by the uncertainty of world events, industry trends have demonstrated that there is hope on the horizon of a return to key issues away from the COVID-19 pandemic as winter turns to spring.

Market outlook

Independent Commodity Intelligence Services (ICIS) has recently gathered, analysed and interpreted upcoming trends in chemicals, energy and sustainability including those trends that have been accelerated as a consequence of a tumultuous 2020. The ICIS 2021 Global Market Outlook Chemicals report looks at how markets will develop into 2021 – and hopefully set the stage for a pandemic-free 2022.

As vaccines are rolled out and the health emergency recedes, the report summarises that the chemicals industry is set to turn its attention to those issues that marked the agenda before the pandemic such as recycling and sustainability.

The pan-Europe policy framework for the post-pandemic period is focused on reconstructing the continent’s economy around green themes, it concludes, and the chemicals sector has many roles to play in the drive to net zero emissions, planned by 2050.

Customer collaboration

Petrico is a pioneering business at the heart of the fuels, lubricants and petrochemical industries and a leading European supplier and distributor of additives and speciality products.  It has always strived to achieve close relationships with customers, to develop long term alliances based upon service excellence, quality and integrity.

Whilst the chemicals industry has performed relatively well during the pandemic, the prevailing conditions have re-emphasised the need for close customer collaboration and increased attention on regionalisation and distribution channels.

Driving change

As well as leading an industry charge against emissions alongside some of the world’s leading specialty chemical companies, Petrico has been an active ICIS member for many years, and in 2020 was named among the organisation’s top 250 worldwide chemical distributors.
